Rolex ‘BIG WHITE’ Sea-Dweller 1665 circa 1977
SOLD
The Rolex 1665 ‘MK 0 great white’ or ‘big white’ has to be one of the rarest SEA-DWELLER dials to exist. Produced in fewer numbers than almost anY other other version of the SEA-DWELLER with perhaps the exception of the early prototype ‘single red’ & ‘MK 0 double reds’, we have certainly seen fewer examples than any of the MK I to MK IV ‘double red’ dials that are so well documented & subsequent ‘great whites’.
Often referred to by collectors as the ‘big white’ it is considered to be a transitional dial which was produced by Lemrich & Cie for Rolex & installed onto the first White Sea-Dwellers with 5 millions serials which followed the last of the Double Reds in 1977. The ‘big white’ dials are easily identifiable due to the ‘SEA-DWELLER’ model designation being longer than the 2000ft=610m depth rating.
This is an exceptional example of a truly rare dial with a beautifully rich patina. A sleeping giant for sure & one that will soon find a home with a true dive watch aficionado.
